Cautiously now, he took a small step, and a twig snapped under the weight of his paw. Paniced by the noise, he backed up, eyes wide, searching the area for sign of movement. His flank heaved as he breathed heavily, having walked all day. Heart rate returning to normal, he scanned the nearby trees once more, but found nothing.
"Ghole, nobody heard the twig. It was just a small noise," he reassured himself, shaking his head in disgust; fretting over a small Snap! He wouldn't get anywhere in life being afraid of twigs. Aiming to watch where his paws landed from now on, he padded on, thankful for the shade of the small forest. His dark grey, almost black pelt merged with the shadows that the great, green trees cast on the leaf-strewn forest floor. Even his eyes blended in, the emerald irises lost in the sea of foliage that surrounded him. Only the faint shine that emitted from them would give him away, as he looked around, taking the area in. He'd never been in this forest before. He was lost, and pretty sure he didn't want anything to find him.
((Awesome, thanks for posting a thread here. And the thread you made in Solar Pack is fine. I edited in saying so.))
With a sigh, Ariana remembered when the Kofi Lake had flooded. All but she had been lost to the floods, and Ariana was determined to make her pack stronger then ever. Ariana sniffed warily. Things in the forest hadn't been the same since the flood, and she still found it a little hard to get around sometimes. She couldn't see a thing, but continued on, when the smell of wolf hit her nose. Ariana shook out her oddly colored pelt, and headed toword the noise. Pausing every so often to check she was heading in the right direction.
The scent of wolf was now overpowering, and she stopped just under a low hanging branch. "Who are you? What do you want? I am Ariana, the Lunar Pack alpha female." Ariana said calmly. She hoped he would join the pack. They so desperatly needed members. " You are on Lunar pack territory." She added, her tone just a tad sharper. Ari guessed he could have been lost, or roaming, but it was still unacceptable to tresspass without a vreason. Unless of course, the wolf was looking to join.
Ghole jumped back at the sound of another wolf's voice, stumbling on a thick briar bush. Thorns raked his flank as he attempted to stand. Wincing, he pulled himself free and looked around warily. Had he imagined the voice? No, it rang out again, warning him that he was on Lunar Pack territory. He hadn't known there were any packs nearby, but had smelled wolf. Idiot! he repremended himself, shaking his thin coat. He had to act calm, show her that he wasn't afraid, however many other wolves there were.
"Lunar Pack, is it?" he asked, trying to keep his voice uninterested, like he was used to stomping into pack territories uninvited all the time. He wasn't sure where the Lunar Pack wolves were, so he directed his question to the general area. "Well, Ariana, Lunar Pack Alpha female, I'm Ghole,"
((Okay, thanks. c: ))
Ariana heard the sound of thorns raking fur and the wolf appearently stumbling on the thick briar bushs. She tried not to show her amusement. The wolf shook out his pelt. "Lunar Pack, is it?" The wolf asked. "Well, Ariana, Lunar Pack Alpha female, I'm Ghole,"
"Well, Ghole, why are you here? Are you looking to join, or just passing through?" Ariana asked. and shook out her pelt again to rid it of some thorns. She had to crouch because of how tall she was, and she didn't like crouching in front of another wolf. It showed weakness. She carfully stepped out of the branchs, being careful not to get stuck on the thorns. Everything had grown really fast because of the recent rains, and prey was plentiful, but her pelt still had scratchs from when thorns raked her skin. Her bright orange, black, and white fur hid thmost of them though. She had been born in these forests, knew them like the back oof her paw, and it felt odd to have to crouch under low hanging branchs weighed down with so much foliage.
"I could offer you a place in the pack if you'd want to join." Ari said, but the truth was, there were no other pack members. Arianas mother had died of a nasty lung infection just a few days ago, so seh was all alone. Amber had run off, it was unsure if she'd ever come back. But Ariana knew she would never survive on her own. She was totally blind, and she had been attacked by rouges before... She needed to restart the pack... Soon...
Her question caught him off guard. Looking to join? He stood stock still, watching as she stepped out from under a low branch, her multicolored fur bright against the green contrast of the forest. She was tall, and he felt vulnerable. Here he was, all alone, while she probably had dozens of pack members that would loyally leap at his throat. His heart pounding once more, he struggled to sound calm.
"Depends. Is that just a trick, to lure me in and finish me off?" he asked, trying to sound comical, like the idea made him laugh. He took a step forward, cocking his head, searching her face for a sign of anger or cruelty. Seeing none, his muscles untensed, but he gave her a wary look. Why ask a stranger to join your pack? Ghole sighed, his insides writhing. He was a stranger, to everyone. Having ditched his family for a life of glamour and fame among all wolves, he didn't know anyone anymore. As for his life of fame; it had ended up a lot harder than stories made it out to be, and he'd given up. Wandering around aimlessly was his aim for life now. "Is there a reason I should join your Pack, other than this fine scenery and your...hospitatility, which is very hard to come by, y'know,"
(He's going for charming, but utterly failing at it. x3 )
Forest. Thick, thick forest. That was what it had been for the last two hours, and that was what the white wolfess assumed it would be for two hours more.
Still, something in the brush seemed to call to her. Seemed to be leading the yearling onward, but to what? Adventure? Destiny? Even a simple den next to a calmly flowing river would be heaven by now.
"That and some decent food."
Shaking her thick furred head and lamenting her empty belly, Winter silently went over the last two weeks of her adventure.
Home was gone; there was just nothing left. Nothing besides the charred remains of trees, and smoke stained hunting grounds. So, cutting her losses, and walking away, Winter had cautiously started her new life in the world beyond.
Still, even her stubborn side had to admit that the many miles of walking were beginning to take their toll.
"And all I've been eating while on this damn trip are skinny mice and foolish voles." she snapped, blue eyes gazing furiously into the sky. "Oh, what I'd give to have a fat, juicy rabbit all to myself."
Mind dreaming of a delicious young hare snatched from its hole, Winter almost missed the sounds of snapping twigs reaching out from the surrounding forest.
That sound could only mean one thing. Winter was not alone. Not anymore. All that was left was to hide and wait. Wait to see whether the creature she had heard was an unexpected meal or an untimely death.
Winter hoped she would find out soon.
((And there's my grand entrance. Now, we can get things moving!))
Rising Moon padded quietly across the water sodden ground. The recent flood caused her to be seperated from her pack. They probably think i died. She thought, well it was probably, they might have all died as well. She had been separated from them for about a month.
Rising Moon raised her head and howled, a hopless heartbreaking song broke through the eerie silence of her old home. Her neck arched gracefully, her eyes glazed with the pain of her heart being figuratively ripped out of her chest.
"Why did this have to happen?" The moaned to herself, pain crushed her like a pack of wolves had just pinned her to the dirt ground. She curled up, in plain sight, and stuffed her nose into her long light grey fur, her icy blue eyes stung with tears. Please, if someone is going to kill me, come now. She begged inside herself, she was completely hopeless, all the leadership she had been born with had been squeezed out of her.
"Sure it is. We'd love to kill you." Ariana commented sarcasticly. The wolf had taken a step forword, but she sensed his tension releasing it's grip on him. "And, I know what it's like to be a loner. It's tough, and even harder when you're like me. I'm blind, so all the wolves tended to take advantage of me. They'd randomly attack me, and steal all my food, and discriminated. Joining this pack is one of the best descisions I have made in my life so far." Ari said.
Suddenly she heard a twig snap, it sounded close by. Her ears pricked, Ari sniffed the air warily. The scent of an unfamiliar wolf hit her nose. Then she heard a long, sad, hopeless howl. She instantly recognized it, and her heart leaped with joy. Rising Moon was alive! Ari howled back in response. She thought that all the pack members had died during the flood, from disiease, or run off like Amber did.
Rising Moon leapt to her feet, her eyes wide in a mixture of surprise and disbelief. She heard the howl again, and almost fell over onto her face in surprise. Ari! She's alive! She thought, still disbelievingly. She tried to run, but she was so stiff with shock she tripped and sprawled onto the mossy, wet dirt.
She pulled herself to her paws, arched her head up, and let out another howl. This one filled with joy, hope, and longing for family. She raced through the trees as fast as her paws could carry her, her heart beat quickly, much like a fleeing rabbit. Her breath came in pants, but she pushed her self on.
Rising Moon exploded through a thicket, tripped and sprawled across the ground again, right in front of Ari's paws. She flipped onto her stomach and barked, "I can't believe it, another pack member, still alive." Her tail wagged uncontrollably, then it hit something. She lurched to her paws, then shook off her pelt. She turned slowly, and stared at the lone wolf. "Who is this?" She asked, her neck fur had risin slightly, and her mouth was twisted into the beginning of a snarl.
Ari heard the howl of her loyal beta and she waited, knowing that she would be there as soon as possible. Just then, Rising Moon bounded into the clearing, tripped and lay spralwed on the ground at Arianas feet. "I can't believe it! Another pack member still alive!" Moon said as she roled onto her back. Ari could hear her tail wagging furiusly, and Ariana's tail was also wagging uncontrollably. She was so happy to have her beta back. Rising Moon had always been a good friend and a loyal packmate. "Moon! I've been looking all over for you! Are you OK? Ari asked, looking shocked and excited at the same time.
Moons tail hit something, and Ari heard her get to her feet and turn, shaking off her pelt. "Who is this?" She asked, the faintest hints of a snarl in her voice. Ari flicked her tail. "Relaxe, Moon, He might be joining us." Ari said calmly. She didn't want Moon or this loner to fight. Not when they needed all the pack members they could get at this point. "And I thought I smelled another loner over there when that twig snapped as well." Ari continued, angling her ears in the direction of where the scent had been coming from. They were still upwind, but if that other loner was still around, she would have probably guessed that there were other wolves around.
Ari's sarcasm brought a small smile to Ghole's face as he listened to her talk. She was blind? He hadn't noticed anything unusual about her, but maybe he just wasn't being observant.
"Well, maybe it-" he tried to say, but was cut off when a howl rose on the air. The Alpha female of Lunar Pack seemed to know them, and she howled back. In the next moment, a light grey she-wolf burst out of the foliage. She spoke, but her words confused Ghole. Another pack member alive? "There aren't any more of you?" he asked, sniffing the air. True, he couldn't smell any others, except for the faint taste of another single wolf, but he couldn't pinpoint where. Again, he hadn't been observant enough. These stupid mistakes wouldn't get him anywhere in life - he had to pay attention!
(Ah, sorry. Bad post. x.x & welcome to the party, Katt & Hazel! c: )
"There aren't any more of you?" Ghole asked. Ari stayed silent, trying to decide how much to tell this loner. "I don't know. With Kofi Lake having flooded so badly, and with all the rain, I thought none of my packmates where alive.... But I was wrong. Moon is the beta female of the pack." Ari admitted. Damn, she though I thought I'd never find my pack again. Thank the heavens that Rising Moon survived.
"I'm very sorry for your loss," Ghole said, bowing his head. So the only member in her pack was the other wolf, Rising Moon, who had just stumbled in and immediately snarled at him. Not very friendly over here, he observed, wrinkling his nose in thought. It would take a lot to rebuild a whole pack, and running a whole pack would be even harder.
"I'll take you up on your offer, Miss Ari, Ma'am," he chuffed, his tail wagging. So he wouldn't wander around for the rest of his life, he'd be part of the Lunar Pack. He raised his head, admiring the tall trees and lush plants that surrounded him. Would he get to know this forest, would it be his?
Ghole had accepted her offer. Now he needed to know the rules. "Thank you for joining the pack." Ariana said. "The Shae Forest is our territory, and no pack members should go out of it. The Volcano Ring is a dangerous place, and I don't think the Volcano Pack would be happy about us if we strayed into their territory. There are also rules. You respect all the pack members. I don't care if they are a lower rank then you are. Under no circumstances may a pack wolf attack another pack member. We also try to keep our youths as safe as possible, as they are the futuree of the pack. All newcomers start out as an omega, the lowest ranking wolf in the pack, and if an omega is interested in becoming a warrior and defending the pack, they come see me. The tests in which an omega are promoted to warrior are hard, and will often take several days to complete. I explain all of that when a wolf comes to me with a request for the warrior trials. If you ever have any problems with another pack member harassing you, orjust need to talk about anything with me, just howl" Ariana was much calmer now that Ghole had accepted her offer to join the pack. "Loners should be driven out immediatly if they show any aggressive behavior, and if they seem friendly, give them a warning of where they are. Do you understand?" She finished. The wind was beginning to pick up, and Ari turned her head slightly so it wouldn't be blowing right into her face.
Ears pricked for danger as she lay in the brush, Winter's eyes lit up as the sounds of voices were carried towards her on the wind.
Voices? Could it be possible that there were other wolves here too?
Winter did have to admit that she had caught scent of something unusual when she had first crossed into the forest, but her weary hunger had pushed it aside like a child who was tired of his toys.
"Perhaps I should go find out what's out there. Hiding isn't going to do me any good, and with any luck, it could be something I can eat."
Summoning up the last of her strength, Winter boldly stepped out of her hiding place, and padded her paws down the path where the voices had come from.
It didn't take long for her to find the source.
Choosing to stand on top of a large, rocky cropping of stone, the lone wolfess studied her latest find with aloof interest The wolves talking below seemed friendly enough, but Winter knew better then to venture closer. After all, she would still need time to get away if they turned out to be trouble making rogues.
"Three of them." she muttered, nose sniffing the air for information. "Two girls and a male. I wonder, are they a pack, or wanderers like I am?"
((Thanks for the welcome, Elie! ^_^ And hi, Hazel! Welcome to the game!)
The scent of the strange wolf got stronger, and Ariana could sense a lone female standing on a rocky outcrop above. "Three of them." the strange shewolf muttered/ "Two girls and a male. I wonder, are they a pack, or wanderers like I am?" It had always been known that maned wolves have excellent hearing, and Arianas hearing had developed past that because of her blindness. Ariana raised her head in direction the scent was coming from. The wind had died down to a soft breeze, and it didn't bother her as much. Though the wind was stil blowing towords the group, and Ari hoped the others had heard .. or seen the shewolf. "We are pack" She called to the shewolf. "What are you doing on Lunar territory?" Ari asked. She knew almost exactly where the wolf was. She was born in this very clearing, and knew it like she knew the laws of the pack, even though she couldn't see.
Raising an eyebrow, (can wolves do that? xD) Ghole listened to Ariana lecture him about the rules of the pack. Ack, there were a lot, but most seemed common sense to him. But, all pack members? There were only three of them!
"I suppose so," he replied casually, deciding to keep his other thoughts to himself, less they sound rude or snide. Not wishing to get kicked out now, he would try and remember the rules. Good listeners usually knew what to do when in danger, or any situation, really. Ghole would be a good listener, yes.
When Ari spoke, Ghole spun around, searching for the other wolf. So he had smelt another, it hadn't been his imagination. "We're prepared to drive you off if you mean any harm!" he put in helpfully, an edge in his voice.
Pack. So they weren't rogues after all. Winter sighed in relief.
"I am...exploring." she replied, deciding that no one but her needed to know what had happened only weeks ago. "Not yet anyway."
Slowly climbing down from her perch, Winter relaxed as her paws hit the soft, mossy ground and trotted over to find out more about these wolves of the Lunar pack."If you don't mind me asking, but, how long have you three been living here? The woods were so quiet that I honestly didn't expect to find any creatures like myself within it."
"I've lived here my entire life." Ariana replied. These woods have been really quiet since the flood a few weeks ago." Ariana could sense the wolf relaxe as her paws hit the mossy forest floor. "Who are you?" She asked warily. Ari didn't know this wolf, and she was always wary of loners. She had had a bad experiance wit loners before, and still disliked them.
((Sorry it's so short. Couldn't think of anything to write.))
"My name is Winter, for that is the season I was born in." replied the white wolfess, blue eyes shining proudly in the midday sun as she observed Ariana. "Now, you were saying there was a flood here recently? I noticed that the ground seemed a little uneven in places, and it would explain all those mudslides I saw on my way in."
Suddenly feeling comtemplative, Winter sat back on her haunches and stared up at the sky above.
"So much damage from one little drop of rain." she whispered to no one in particular. "And so much fire from one little spark of lightning. Strange how nature can be beautiful and yet so dangerous. It really is something to behold."
((...Aaaand that's all I've got. We need Winter to get introduced to our other two packmates before we can get this makeshift pack united.))
"Yeah, that flood was agonizing. Our camp was just too close to the lake. This-" Ariana pointed with her tail- "Is Moon, the beta female, and he is Ghole." Ariana said. "So, Winter, why are you here?" She asked.
(You can have your charrie ask to join the pack maybe? And yeah, I really can't post much either. Elie and Hazel should post something soon, hopefully.))
Ghole watched as the female trotted down towards them. He wasn't really sure what to do. Ari seemed to not think of her as a total threat though, and they talked about the recent flood. Mudslides? Curiously, Ghole scratched at the soft ground beneath his paws. The grass and moss parted, revealing dark, soggy soil. Giving it a test stomp, he relaxed as it packed down under his weight. He raised his head, having heard his name.
"Hello, Winter," he woofed, giving her a small smile. Would she join the pack as well?
(Ack, not much to write. x.x Maybe Ari could show them to the camp, or they could go hunting? Standing here isn't much fun. x) )
Ariana noticed the scratching sound, andguessedthat Ghole was testing the ground tosee if it held up. "Ill show you around the territory later if you like, Ghole. There are a few places to be wary of, and the spot I've chosen for the new camp is well-hidden. It's farther from thelake, but but much better incase it floods again." Ariana murmered quietly, so Winter hopefully couldn't hear. Ari flicked her tailto get a small peice of debris off it. I hope Winter joins. She thought.
Winter couldn't help smiling as she watched the dark grey wolf curiously paw the earth.
"Ghole, huh? He seems nice enough. As does Ari. Moon must not like strangers very much".
Turning her attention back to Ariana, Winter's ears perked up as she heard the sounds of whispered words. The many weeks of travel had taught the young female to pay attention to every sound; something that had saved her life on more then one occasion. Even now, it was still proving to be useful.
"Show you around?" thought the wolfess. "A new campsite? And places that should be avoided too. Interesting, this pack is probably a lot younger then I thought it was. It might mean they need new members."
Deciding to go ahead and inquire about room for another wolf, Winter set about it in her own usual fashion.
"Oh, Ghole, are you new to these parts too?" she aked, a knowing smile on her face as she approached him. "I heard what Ari was saying."
Back home, Winter had been an alert, and mischivious little pup. Always one of the first to hear of a new game, and almost always the one to beat it first, it had been those quick paws and keen senses that had carried the wolf so far on her journey to find a new home.
"And now..." she thought with a glance at the forest around her. "Now that journey may finally be over."
((There? ^_^ How's that? I'm trying to flesh out Winter's character, so I can add to her profile page. You guys did some good posts too. (Ghole's was really cute). Just put spaces after if you're doing long posts so it doesn't get all jumbled together.))
"Oh, Ghole, are you new to these parts too?"she approached him. "I heard what Ari was saying." Crap. Ariana thought. She heard me. "Are you loking to join?" Ariana asked.
"Well, I've been on my own for a while now, but I'm tired of wandering, so, yes, I guess I am. What kind of prey do you have here? Any rabbits?"
Nose twitching as a stray breeze caught her attention, Winter detected something enticing in it.
"That smells like food. I wonder if it would be big enough to share."
Woah. o.O Idunno what happened, but this box is all stretched and stuff. Ignore, plz. O.o Sorry.
"Err, yeah, I am," he murmured, giving her a curious glance. Both of these females had superb hearing, much more than himself. Would he be able to compete with them, or would he only be a bother?
"Rabbits?" Ghole echoed, his interest peaked. Food was a very tempting subject. His new information and surroundings were threating to overwhelm him, but hunting down and killing some prey would reassure that he was in control of himself once again. "And then we could go check out the camp you were talking about," he woofed, turning to Ariana with a smile. Were they really a pack, then?
(Oh my gosh, my computer hated those two short paragraphs. x.x I've had to rewrite them twice, it kept deleting them. D: )
Ariana nodded. "We have some rabbits, but mostly deer and mice though. And yes, Winter, you may join." She sniffed the air, and smelled deer close by. "Deer." She identified. "I'm better suited for fighting though." She said with a sigh. "I challenged for this position when our previous alpha started going a little loopey on us and kicked out several pack members." She admitted. "We may as well hunt. You three can split it, I ate right before I found you here, Ghole." "Then I'll show you both around."
"Thank you." replied Winter. "I appreciate the warm welcome. That deer smells pretty good too. Much better then the mice I've been living on."
A wolfish grin on her face, the hungry female twitched her ears in eager amusment. "Shall we go see if we can find it? I wouldn't mind looking around afterwards too."
Tae carefully approached the small group of wolves she could see through the trees. She woofed softly and padded warily towards them. "H-h-hello..." She mumbled, her tail between her legs. Her body was crouched low to the ground. "I'm Taethia, Tae for short. Are you guys a pack?" She asked. She wanted someone to call family. She stared up at them, not quite making eye contact.
She was deathly thin, having lived off what she could forage or catch. Mourning the loss of her foster mother had made her weak, and the other lone wolves that would randomly attack her wore her down. She was an excellent hunter and a great fighter, but the mountain lion that had brought down her foster mother had gotten a hold of her leg, and it hadn't healed well in the last few months. She was hoping someone would let her join, or at least help her get better.
She continued to cower. She knew a fight with this many wolves would deffinatly kill her, Her leg burned painfully, and her head throbbed. They looked as if they were about to leave and she had interupted. She took a pawstep back, her tail swishing softly, but still kept low.
"Sounds like a good plan," Ghole woofed, grinning at the three females. He hadn't hunted down a deer in a long time. One wolf couldn't take down a deer by himself, and so Ghole had lived off of mice and other small creatures, occassionally a rabbit if he was lucky.
He gave a joyous leap, but stopped in midair and stumbled when a voice met his ears. Another wolf? He wondered how many lone wolves were wandering around these parts. Getting to his paws once more, he turned to see a very thin, grey she-wolf.
"Yeah, we are," he said softly, feeling a tinge of pity for the female. Her leg didn't look very good, and it seemed to be causing her a lot of pain. "What do you want, Tae?" he asked, not unkindly.
(Welcome, Rose! c: )
Watching as Ghole's excited leap sent him crashing towards the ground, Winter blinked in surprise as she found another strange wolf standing only a few feet away.
"She looks hurt. Hungry too, and I thought I was in bad shape. Maybe we should do something."
"Taethia, was it?" she called, paws lightly stepping across the moss covered earth as Winter made her way towards the newly arrived female. "You look like you've come a long way. I myself have been doing quite a bit of traveling, but this pack was kind enough to take me in. If you'd like to join, then ask Ariana; she's our pack leader."
((*waves to the new person* Thanks for joining, Rose! More people means more fun! Now, who wants deer for dinner? )
"I've also been wandering around, but Ariana accepted me too," Ghole chimed in, trying to be helpful. "We were about to go hunting for deer," he added, sniffing the air hopefully. The scent was becoming stale, meaning that the herd or whatever deer that were nearby were drifting farther away. Their dinner was leaving! "You could come, I guess, maybe, if you want to join. If Ariana accepts you. You could eat with us, maybe. Yeah..." he stumbled, trying to think of something to say. He never talked to other wolves! With an intake of air and a huff, he decided to keep his muzzle shut.
Taking a deep breath, he looked around, noting that the trees were tasting longer shadows on the moss-covered ground. Was it really getting that late? He shrugged it off, thinking it had been a hectic day - and still was. All these others wolves, and they just kept showing up! He had to get over it though - packs were always busy and running around. He was a member of the Lunar Pack.
(Ghole does! Being so awkward and flioundery takes up a lot of energy. ;D)
Ariana nodded at Ghole, and her large ears pricked up at the sound of a new loner approaching. "Hello Taethia." Ariana said politely. She could smell an infected leg, and guessed that this newcomer had been injured during the floods. Of course, she didn't know that for sure though. "And you're right, Winter. We should do something. Being without a pack and having any sort of injury is not good." To Winter, she said "I'm Ariana, lunar pack alpha. Though most call me Ari." Sniffing again, she coudl tell that Tae was painfully thin, probably starving, and that her leg had to be hurting her greatly. The wind suddenly picked up, and it ruffled her fur. Ari turned her head slightly again, so it wasn't blowing full on into her face.
Moon was quickly becoming uncomfortable with the new arivals. She was not very quick to trust to begin with, now with these practical loners around she almost lost her bearing on control. Moon looked at the three wolves, then padded swiftly after the herd of deen which was trotting through the forest.
"Come catch up when you are done, I guess." She mumbled then quickened her pace the slightest bit more. When she was close enough to smell the herd clearly she stopped and shrunk to the ground. She quickly darted into the shadows of the trees, being careful to avoid any noise at all.
A doe had a slight limp, the doe looked half dead already. Sympathy for the deer shot up Moon's heart she associated herself in a good position to leap out at the doe and drive it from the herd.
((Sorry, I have been distracted lately!))
(Ack, sorry I disappeared too. 'Dunno why, just been a bit...lifeless lately. xD)
Ghole watched Moon dart off to chase the herd of deer, and his paws told him to follow her. Anxiously, he cast a look at the other females, debating.
"I'll go with her, and bring back some deer," he woofed, dipping his muzzle to them and dashing after the beta. Trying to pick up her scent - which was obviously still fresh - he followed, ears pricked for the sound of deer hooves. Nearing her hiding place, he slid onto his belly and inched forward until he was behind her.
"Omega here, coming to help," he barely dared to breath, trying not to alarm her. Crawling even more slowly, he came to a stop beside her, and peered out at the herd. He noted the limping deer, his gaze turning to Moon, seeing as she was in charge.
Ariana knew that Moon wasn't that fond of loners, so she wasn't at all surprised when she darted off to find the herd of deer. She was however, surprised that Ghole darted after her. "Moon never did like large crowds or loners." Ariana admitted. "Then again, I shouldn't talk." She'll warm up to you eventually. We didn't get along that great when I first joined the pack either." Ariana continued. Oh, how she missed those days when the rest of the pack was still alive! Stupid, stupid floods! She thought bitterly. The leaves of the tree rustled, and the wind, blowing the scents of Moon and Ghole to them, picked up suddenly.
((I kind of dissapeared also. Sorry! Was also short on time, so can't really write much. Sorry everyone!))
Watching as Ghole and Moon disappeared into the forest, Winter turned and gave Taethia a reassuring smile.
"They should be back soon." she whispered. "For now, you should probably lie down and rest that leg of yours; it looks very painful."
Looking around for a suitable spot, the wolfess nodded in approval of a patch of mossy ground that was hidden by the shade of a tall tree. "That will do."
((Hey, don't worry about it; I've been busy too. ^_^ Nice to have Moon back, but now we need Tae's owner to post again.))
Ariana noded in approvel of Winters quick thinking. "I learned a bit about herbs from when our old healer was around. I'll see if I can find some." Ariana offered. Ari sniffed again, to see if the leg was infected. Dammnit! She couldn't tell from here. she started going through a list of herbs in her head. Poppy Seeds for her to sleep... cowebs incase the wound reopens...She had all the hebs back at her den, because after the flood many of her packmates had been sick or injured. Hopefully someone will bring back a little meat for her. Being that thin is bad, very bad.
((Yeah, Roseliea needs to post now, so more can get done.))
Moon shot a quick glance towards Ghole and gave a little nod. She quickly darted around the limping deer, which gave a startled squeak and scampered off as quickly as it could. She leaped at the doe, but she calculated wrong and landed right behind her. "Dammit." She growled, as the doe lashed out at her with it's good leg.
The blade of the hoof sunk into her shoulder, she growled harshly leaping backwards a few feet. She then leapt again, neatly on the doe's side knocking her swiftly to the ground. The doe struggled and lashed out again, hitting Moon across the eyes with her hoof. She let out a quick, pained whimper and grabbed the doe's muzzle in her jaws, breaking off her airways. "Ghole, hold her down!" She barked, it sounded like, 'Hole, old er own." Around the doe's muzzle which she was holding, blocking her speech.
Ghole shot after the female, hoping to help out as much as he could. Though, it seemed Moon didn't need much help, and after a few what looked like painful hits, she leaped upon the injured doe's muzzle. Rushing to her side, he nodded and raked his claws against her hide, pinning her down with his weight. Panting, Ghole noticed that their prey's breathing was becoming less frequent, and her ribcage seemed to be heaving, gasping for air. Finding none, the doe's struggles became less until she lay motionless.
"I think she's dead," he barked, but didn't get off of the poor deer's side, wanting to be sure. "Nice chase," he woofed, giving her a small smile. Had the hoof injured her badly? It didn't show if it had, as the beta had taken down the deer without much of his help.
Moon realesed the doe's muzzle and looked towards Ghole, "Yes, it was." She replied, her eyes were watering slightly. Luckily, her eyes had not been cut by the doe's hoof, the hoof had hit just above her eyes. She turned her head to the side as much as she could and peered at her shoulder. There was a large gash oozing with blood, she stared at it for a moment, then began to lick it clean.
When she had gotton the cut as clean as she could on her own she lifted her head high and let out a howl of victory, telling the pack wolves to come feast. She moved her front right leg, then winced as her shoulder screamed in pain. She limped towards the doe and tore a chunk of meat from its side and began to chew it slowly, letting the taste of the freshly slain doe explode of her tongue.
Nodding, Ghole released his grip on the doe, glad that his first hunt as a pack wolf had been successful. He scraped his claws against the ground, freeing the tufts of fur that had caught in them. Satisfied, he lifted his head to say something to Moon, but saw that her shoulder had been badly gouged. Wincing at the blood that issued from it, he turned his gaze to the deer. It looked old and thin, but it was meat none the less.
Hearing the beta begin to howl, Ghole raised his muzzle as well and howled along with her. He called to the pack and happily told them that their hunt had been successful, and there was plenty of deer to eat. Lowering his head, he looked over at Moon again.
"Is your shoulder pretty bad?" he asked politely, watching as she began to eat. Remembering something he had been told long ago, he sat and waited for the rest of the pack to arrive. Omegas ate last, when everyone had gotten some. Though his stomach growled, for he hadn't eaten in a day, he waited, because he wanted to be a good omega.
Ariana heard the howl. It was Moon again, this time announcing prey had been caught. "Come on. I think we should get Tae some food. Being that thin and with nothing to eat won't help her recover." Ari said to Winter." To Tae, "I'll get the herbs for that leg once we're done eating. Ariana slipped into the trees again, and trotted briskly to where the howl had come from. When she reached the clearing, she could smell the deer... and a wolfs blood. Moons blood. "Are you okay Moon?" Ariana asked. Getting kicked by any hoofed animal wasn't good. And Ari had a nice scar on her flank to prove it from when she could see and had been hunting. The wound would probably need to be cleaned and treated with Marigold or Burdock roots.
((I'm using the same herbs that are used in the warriors series by Erin Hunter. And Roseliea really needs to post before we have to start controlling her charrie for her. Tae can't just be left there.))
"Yes, yes it is pretty bad." Moon barked between chews of the deer meat. She gulped down the last bit and turned to look at her shoulder, which was already becoming slightly infected. She wanted to coninue licking it, but she knew it would only make it worse. She let out a small sigh and looked towards the approaching pack members.
"I'm not OK, but I'm not dying." Moon replied to Ariana's question. She limped towards the deer and took another chunk of meat, slightly smaller than the first. She laid down, wincing slightly as she tried to get into a comfortable position to continue to eat the fresh deer meat.
[[So this is where everyone went :s]]
I snored noisily in a small den that had been left after I had killed and eaten the owner. The small male`s bones lay in the corner of the den. I woke up slowly, with a yawn, and poked my head out. I sniffed the air and smelt wolves. Dinner. I thought. I didn`t think about the fact that he was greatly outnumbered. I charged through the bushes, and pounced on Ghole. I landed with a thump right next to him. I got up and lunged toward Moon. I pinned her down, a crazy glint in my eye indicating that I was out of my mind and was not going to give her any mercy. I saw her injury, and lowered my teeth to her neck.
[[Writer`s block...Fight back Moon XD My wolf is going to eat youu if you don`t 8u Nom nom nom...I feel like I`m godmodding your wolf DX]]
Moon growled then lunged her paws upwards, catching the male in the stomach and forcing him off her. She tried to flip over, but the pain in her shoulder had tripled. The cut had been ripped further open. Moon lunged to her paws, barely escaping falling over again and writhing in agony. "Get out of here." She demanded harshly, walking slowly, threateningly towards the strange wolf. "This pack will not be messed with. Ever." She growled, lunging at the wolf and knocking his head to the ground. She placed her paw firmly on his neck, cutting off his airways.
((Writers block...))
I wheezed, well, at least tried to. I couldn`t breathe. I put my paws up to her injury. I dug my claws in and wrenched her shoulder down. Blood oozed out. I managed to wrench her paw off my neck, biting it and heaving it away with both paws. I got up, wheezing, and realised, that if only one can do that much, I was as good as dead if I had to face all of them. I turned tail and ran. Maybe I would have better luck at shock falls. I ran most of the way to there, but started to walk when I knew I was near, telling by the crashing of water against the rocks.
[[Sorry, complete writer`s block :s I`m not in a creative mood today :l]]
Mable walked in to the clearing. There were other wolves around and she was unknown. She sighed and sat by a nearby stream. She drank from the soft flowing stream and kept an eye on the other wolves behind her. She supposed that they were wolves, as they were talking about some strange thing.
She got up and sat beside a yound willow tree. the tree was burnt down dead. It was easy to see that they were talking about the weather. The sky.
Mable glanced up worried. If she hadn't been here she could be stuck out there. She got up and came to the group. "Can I help?" she asked politely.
Ears raised in surprise as Moon's howl rang out, Winter was about to follow Ariana when she heard the sounds of pawsteps coming up behind her.
"Another wolf?" she mouthed, quickly spinning around to see the lone female standing there. "Uh, hello. W-who are you?"
((We may as well put Tae up as an adoptable character. It's been far too long, so I'm pretty sure Rose isn't coming back.)
Moon gasped in pain as her injury was penetrated be the loner. She staggered backwards and was knocked to the ground. She looked up, seeing the fleeing shape of the loner. "Coward!" She snarled, her teeth still bared. Moon slowly untensed her body as the loner fled, she slowly sunk to the ground. She whimpered when her injured shoulder burned as she moved it. She shuddered and laid her head on the ground, her eyes wet with pained tears.
((Writers block yet again!))
Three wolves wandered across the dark volcanic rock. They had come from the west, following the sandy coastline until they hit the bay. When the eldest of the three smelled a trace of wolves, they left the water and headed through the ash forest. After going through the preyless expanse, they hunted on the plains. The eldest female once again took charge and took them closer to the smell of other wolves. They were in a ring of old volcanos. Many plants grew in the rich soil of the valley, but the three kept to the rocky hillside to better track the smell of wolves. Finally, as they came upon the crest of a hill, they could see true forest below.
As the old female took her time sniffing the air and scanning the countryside, debating if the three should try these wolves or continue traveling, the other two took a break. Both were fully grown, but young. The dark brown male sat down and scanned the hillside for signs of prey, while the young grey female wandered around the rocks, sniffing. When she started crunching on a stick out of boredom, the elder growled a warning without turning around. The young grey female gently set the stick on the ground and lay with her head on her paws. "Sorry mother." She whispered
Again focusing on the wolves in the forest, she made her best guess about what was going on. There were several wolves, hard to count due to the different smells combining into a pack scent. At least one newcomer, who did not yet smell like pack. That was not a good sign. Either the pack would be on gaurd thanks to it or would not need any more newcomers. It was hard to tell if there were any young, but it was not the season for pups, so the pack would not be excessively on gaurd. And without a denning site, they would be traveling more, with more uses for more wolves to hunt with. There was blood, probably from a kill, but could also be from the other stranger.
It was a difficult choice. Move on, or try this pack? If she was wrong, she or her pups could be injured, and that they could not risk if they were going to wander far. She paced along the hill. "Llyr, Rhea, we're going down." She snarled. She howled a greeting to the forest wolves, hoping they would hear. Turning her back on her pups, the scarred old she-wolf clamored down the slope, followed by the two younger wolves. The two had lived their lives without a pack, and had no idea why their mother wanted to join one now, instead of back when they were little. Their mother was so obsessed with being packless she allowed their third sibling to starve rather than admit she could not care for them alone. Now that they were grown and could hunt for themselves, what could she possibly want? But they knew better than to question the gruff old wolf. She had her plans, and she would only tell them what they needed to know.
Ariana let out a snarl when the new wolf appeared and attacked Moon. When it passed her, she lashed out at it with one paw, feeling blood well up from the scratches. She could smell blood on her beta, and grabbed the cobwebs that were on the bush she wasing hiding under. Wrapping the sticky cobwebs around her forepaw, she padded over and carefully began to put them on the wounds to her shoulder. "They'll stop the bleeding." She said through gritted teeth. She was seething that a cannibal had attacked a pack member, and that she couldn't do anything about it because she couldn't see. "I have other herbs to keep it from getting infected at the camp, but they aren't in this area." Ariana said, when a sudden howl of greeting split the air. Sniffing the air, Ariana could detect three scents of wolf. Not pack wolves. Every muscle in her body tensed, and all Ariana could do was pray that these wolves wouldn't attack. The wolf that howled she guessed to be female, and she could distinguish a male was with her. The third scent she could not identify. Ariana howled in answer, but her howl was also laced with a warning that plainly said "Don't even try to attack us. Because you will get trouble in return." After all, Ariana could just slip a yew berry into the wolves food, and she would if she had to. The berries were very poisonous, and she had watched a wolf die from just a tiny little peice getting into their stomache.

Continue the roleplay in this thread please. My fingers feel as if they will fall off now. We were just 13164 away from the 50,000 character limit too.
